Surgical instruments startup

Before any use, a new instrument must be deterged effectively. This cleaning must be more the possible advanced, in order to eliminate any trace from oil of machining or mineral contamination. This cleaning is done by immersion in a solution of concentrated detergent degreasing containing phosphates, polyphosphates and alcohols fatty, throughout one 2 to 12 midnight.
To rinse the instrument with very hot water, to dry it, then to subject it to a cycle sterilization. If the instrument has a normal aspect, it can be brought into service. If brown traces appear in particular at the joints or scratch, to renew the operation of cleaning until complete cleaning. Caution: oil residues of badly deterged sandpapering or polishing give, after sterilization, an aspect of rust on the instrument.
Whatever the method used, it is appropriate :
• never wash chrome and stainless instruments jointly
• to avoid the contacts with aggressive solutions at base of halides ions, chlorides, iodide, iodized polyvinylpyrrolidone : Betadine
• to make the choice of a good detergent product:
-not containing neither chlorine nor chlorides,
-not containing acid,
-not containing an abrasive.
The best results are obtained with detergent-grease-removers containing :
• phosphates,
• polyphosphates,
• polyethoxyles fatty alcohols,
• rock salt with plugged alkalinity.
The water used for washing must be :
• filtered o of drinkable quality,
• weak in content of limestones ions thus softened if need be between 6 and 8 Th. A too hard water will inhibit the detergent and will leave after drying, a white powder on the material,
• weak in elements chlorinates or chlorides: < 20 mgr/l,
• weak in content of biogenic salts (copper and iron mainly),
• to be wary of too softened water which contains very corrosive sodium chlorides : (BE CAREFUL TO TWO SOFTENERS IN CASCADE),
• to prefer the water permuted or osmosée for the rinsing with any other system of purification.
The USE OF WIRE BRUSHES AND SCOURING PADS FOR the CLEANING OF the INSTRUMENTATION IS PROSCRIBED.
